Laura’s Story

Two years ago, my husband and I found ourselves becoming guardians of his mother, who had been diagnosed with mid-to-late-stage Alzheimer's. Despite her ability to walk, talk, and joke as she always had, she did not always recognize her loved ones.

 

Managing full-time jobs while providing her with constant care became our daily reality. A professional caregiver was in our home during the day, while I took on the role of primary support outside of work hours. The responsibilities were endless, requiring patience and vigilance. From handling medications to offering comfort during late-night episodes of confusion, caregiving consumed my every spare moment.

 

Mornings were flooded with uncertainties: How did she sleep? Did she drink enough water? What triggered her anxiety today? I took notes, set alarms, and messaged updates to family members. By day's end, the exhaustion wasn't just physical – I was exhausted trying to remember everything caregiving required.

 

With a background in technical project management spanning over 25 years, I turned to my expertise in building systems that simplify processes and prioritize what truly matters. Developing a simple daily tracker marked a shift -- from reacting to caregiving needs to proactively managing them.

 

Quelm is built to make caregiving tasks easy and fun to track with the primary goal being to help caregivers feel like the heroes they are. Quelm goes beyond managing tasks, it empowers caregivers, supports activity monitoring, and brings visibility to a role often overlooked. We hope you love Quelm as much as we do.
